Pain, singing, or …orgasm?
Though by the looks of it, one may wonder if Microsoft is trying to raise something else entirely with the male buyers of the Zune.
Best Buy put the Zune on sale earlier than it should have — the Zune's supposed to be released in the U.S. next Tuesday — and some people took advantage of that to get their Zune early. Not everyone had as much fun with it, however, as one person reported a crashing installation sequence of the Zune software, and added various screenshots of the install routine. The crash screen itself is, well, questionable at best — in terrible taste at worst.
Take a look at the image added to this post (bigger photo here).
Are we meant to think of this girl as singing along excitedly to a song that's being played on loud speakers as she's clearly not carrying a Zune and has no earbuds in? Maybe.
Is this girl in excruciating pain, perhaps someone is jabbing her with a pitchfork or some terrible music is playing and the girl is about to raise her hands to cover her ears? Probably not.
Could it be that the girl is being pleasured by an off-screen person (her own hands are visible) and that she is bordering on a hefty orgasm? Given that there is a kissing couple in the picture, this actually seems most likely — and her facial expression certainly fits that notion.
What is it with Microsoft and having poor taste? This isn't just a small "oops, guess we messed up" mistake, and in all likeliness, it's a conscious decision even. They are trying far too hard, apparently hoping to link the Zune with the image of raving orgasms and happy couples kissing in the grass. Is this Microsoft's response to the general consensus that iPods are so sexy, people have commented (numerous times) they would make love to the thing?
One must wonder what parents will think of Microsoft choosing a picture of a kissing couple and an orgasming girl for their Zune installation screen. Personally, I don't need to be confronted with weird, suggestive pictures while I'm setting up the supporting software of a digital audio player.
No headphones, orgasm. And from the looks of it a threesome.
it's a fake orgasm.
It would only be a real orgasm if the ZUNE booted up in Linux !!
That's the painful look of:
I just paid a few hundred dollars for this Microsoft player and it won't even install!
Anyone notice that all three people visible are female?
or two females and a man with feminie features and long hair.
Couldn't tell about the one on the bottom, but are you obsessing or something ? ; )
Yes. Apparently MS is going for the young lesbian market.
Or, I suppose, the couple above are listening to an iPod and the girl below is screaming in frustration because she spent her money on a Zune and can't get the software to install.
They are, of course, sharing their earbuds. Because you know how much women love that.
Or maybe they're just showing how sorry they are for getting a Zune?
If thats the case, I will buy one to get a possible threesome/Foursome!
This is so typically-Microsoft that it's hilarious. The name of the player itself means "f**k" in Hebrew, there's two girls making out in the top of the screen and a bra-less Asian girl screaming in anguish over yet another Microsoft error!
At the risk of sounding like a broken record I'm so glad I own a Mac, an iPod and a Linux box. ;)
The name of the player itself means "f**k" in Hebrew
maybe they should have named it z**e
Or this is the greatest marketing campaign ever! Somehow, someone "accidentally" gets a hold of the Zune early. That someone just "happens" to be a blogger. They just "happen" to get an error screen (okay, this is Microsoft, maybe that's a bit easier to believe). Now we all associate the MS Zune with orgasming hot females... This is a far better association than Apple's attempts to associate the iPod with hipsters who are far better dancers than we could ever hope to be.
Or even more!
Take that 100+ million as a grain of salt, for very few of them are active bloggers, and fewer still are meticulous enough to write an article of this depth.
The answer to this is so simple it's a wonder no-one else has picked it up !! There are two possibilities;
1. Microsoft is saying "Buy a ZUNE and you'll get laid"
or
2. Microsoft is saying "Buy a ZUNE and get a free threesome with some young lesbians"
Hell, *either* is acceptable to me ...:-)
Yeah, especially if my wife has anything to do with it...:-)
I'm sorry but is this image such a big deal? You can interpret it any way you like. Maybe MS wanted some extra free publicity by courting controversy by having a marginally dubious picture in their setup screen. But how important is this in the grand scheme of things?
How does it compare to:
Is the Zune any good?
How does it compare to iPod/Creative?
Will it take market share?
How will the former Plays for Sure partners fare?
What will the DRM issues mean for buyers in practice?
etc.
I don't know. My first thought when I saw this was that it was someone screaming in anger, frustration, or pain, which goes nicely with the way I'd be feeling if my machine crashed on installation. There are any number of non-orgasmic stories you could make up for this picture.
OTOH, if you had an orgasm every time Windows crashed, Apple would quickly be out of business. ;-)
"Where would you like to come today?"
I thought it looked like she was frustrated and angry or in pain.
why might she be frustrated? Well there are two people beside her that are clearly enjoying themselves - and she is left out in the cold - she would be enjoying herself had the installation not crashed.
Why would she be in pain - maybe she fell over backwards and that is how she landed, crashing to earth and hitting her head.
However, I can see how you might think she is having an orgasm - except for a few missing tell-tale signs most significantly that her face isn't flushed at all (and nor is her chest for that matter). So, if she is having an orgasm it is clearly a fake.
Sadly, I think you are looking for something that isn't there. However, assuming it really is an orgasm image (and two girls getting it on) did you think it might be a prank one of those "easter eggs" that a developer snuck in? I would find that more likely than an intentional inclusion by Microsoft management.
And to the person who said both of the others were girls - are you certain? Sure they both have long hair (and the one on top seems to be clearly a girl) but the one on bottom isn't as clear - though "her" eyebrow does look feminine.

That might be true if this was a smaller company, but the likelihood that ONE malicious developer's attempt at humor would be overlooked by the hundreds of others working on the project is beyond belief. This is a company that spent 4 months perfecting Vista's start-up sound - there's just no way in hell that a good deal of thought didn't go into the selection of this image.
Microsoft's never been known for it's design decisions. If anything this is a glaring testament to their lack of aesthetic finesse. It would be interesting to know the process that went into choosing this picture though.
I nominate this as the error screen for when 'sharing' fails...
I didn't say Microsoft didn't spend a lot of time trying to come up with an image for this screen - what I am saying is a developer could have secretly changed the screen.
You are right - there are a lot of people involved in the development of the product - but that doesn't, in and of itself, guarantee that a fiendish developer didn't play a little joke.
I find the scenario of a "easter egg" much more likely than Microsoft intentionally putting this image in their product.
I find it more likely that the whole thing is a hoax and we are just looking at some photoshopped "error screens" for the Zune installer.
up and coming iPod killer failure
Who gives a $hit either way. Why are so many people obsessed with Ipod competitions failing??? Do you all of you own stock in apple?? Do you all have man crushes on Steve Jobs? Who gives a damn if it does make it. Hell I hope a Ipod "killer" does make it, good competition in any area is just going to make those products become better and better at a faster rate.
Steve Jobs is hot.
Do you own or have you ever used an iPod, Steve?
Leave it to Microsoft to make the Error screen the most memorable. After all, it may be the most commonly seen.
Seriously, what is wrong with these people?
Uh, the person on the bottom is a dude with long hair, you retards.
Speaking as a "dude with long hair", the one on the bottom isn't. The eyebrow you can see is most definitely shaped (look how it tapers and turns down near the temple), which is something that no long-haired man who is comfortable with his gender would do. IOW, that's a woman's eyebrow. Also. the hair on the ground is a different color than the roots - that hair has been colored, something auburn-ish - not a color most guys would use even if they DID color their hair.
That said, the two on the top of the picture are not kissing, at least not on the mouth, at least not when the picture was taken. Judging from the positions of the heads, the top could be kissing the bottom's chin, but the orientation and placement of the heads just isn't there for mouth-to-mouth.
Honestly, it looks to me like the picture was supposed to be photoshopped before it hit the street to add the final production version of the player to the 'orgasming' girl's hand and ears - the placement of her hand suggests that she is miming a nonexistent device and singing along.
...but after all that, I still like the lesbian story better...
It's all about generating Buzz. Job done. Brand awareness successfully amplified. Sex sells, jury's still out on whether Zune will. But the chatter has increased and that's bankable to any ad agency employed to do exactly that.
Seriously shocking stuff. Bad taste is an understatement - what about the parent who sees their kid installing the software, and then BOOM, you're confronted with your child sitting in front of an image of a clearly orgasming girl. Even if she's crying out in pain, why have it? It just seems like a really unrelated image to have.
It looks to me that the one/both of the other two is on her hair and she's moving that arm to push them away.
It certainly doesn't look like she's getting off...
Well, you know what they say.
All publicity is good publicity.
that screen is great! wow, some of you are really uptight freaks.
The girl in the photo looks like she's being raped.
Zune could fix the misunderstanding by running live commercials and then freezing the spot once they get to this shot.
The Zune is about wireless interaction, no actual physical interaction.
So the woman must be in pain from having to witness a flesh-to-flesh social.
The guy is a zombie, and the asian girl is already half eaten. He's moving on this the next meal.
Maybe she's just jamming to her music? We can't _really— see any earbuds since the photo blocks full shots of her ears off. God, what a bunch of prudes.
You know what? I think you WANT Microsoft to fail. Because if they didn't, you wouldn't have anything to piss and moan about. Get that sand out of your manginas and go get laid... by a woman and not a fleshlight.
Don't mind me, I'm just being my retarded self. Enjoy!
Wait a moment, folks! Nobody has even explored the possibility of an INVISIBLE man kneeling astride the young Asian girl! (EGAD! Now what have we here?)
